Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance

The Careers Lead at Skegness Academy is Miss L Tyler, if you would like to discuss our programme of careers or are a provider seeking access you can contact her by email: ltyler@skegnessacademy.org or phone: 01754 879122.

Mrs K Bloodworth is the Senior Leader for Careers.

The Skegness Academy works with various different organisations such as universities, local and national employers and businesses and also apprenticeship and traineeship providers.

The Academy has partnerships with LincHigher and the University of Lincoln that provide bespoke and personalised support to our pupils.

We off work experience to all our year 12 students so that they can gain insight in the world of work and experience different workplaces and pathways.

The Skegness Academy Careers programme is reviewed annually. We assess the impact of our careers programme on our students by using the COMPASS tool on an annual basis, aligning our strategy with the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks for good Careers provision, analysing student destination data and through the Quality in Careers Standard revalidation cycle which requires a rigorous re-assessment every 2 years. The programme is reviewed continuously using these methods with a full annual review taking place at the end of each academic year, the next date for review is July 2024.

Overview of our CEIAG provision:

We pride ourselves on the careers provision at the Skegness Academy.  We aim to provide every child with the knowledge, skills and confidence to support them with their chosen career aspiration in preparation for adulthood and lifelong career planning/management skills. We provide high quality and bespoke support to all students irrespective of their starting point to support them in making informed career decisions about their future Post 16 options and to fulfil their potential. All students at Skegness Academy will have access to an extensive CEIAG programme which will enable the students to make links between the skills they have learnt in the classroom and those they will need to use in later life.

Our provision for CEIAG 14-19 includes:

  • Individual careers meetings with a careers guidance professional designed to help students realise and fulfil their true potential
  • The chance for students to meet external providers from colleges, universities and employers  to give clear ideas and options of the pathways available to them
  • Support with UCAS application, CV writing and Interview skills
  • Take part in extended enrichment activities outside the classroom environment. These are designed to teach students organisational and professional competency skills and to look at current affairs
  • Students will be given the opportunity to gain work experience to compliment their studies to provide further insight into the labour market and support their personal statements

Careers education in years 7 and 8 is focused on developing confidence and independence skills as well as creating world of work moments within the classroom so students understand clear career links within the curriculum.

In the box below is a copy of our Provider Access Policy. This policy sets out the academy’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to students at the academy for the purpose of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the academy’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.

In July 2021 the Academy was proud to be awarded the Silver Award for Skills Builder. This was a remarkable achievement, especially given we achieved it in our first year of running the programme.

In September 2021 we decided to set our ambitions high and go for Gold.  The hard work paid off and in July 2022 we were so proud to be awarded the Gold standard. In July 2023, the Academy successfully maintained the Gold Award.

The Skegness Academy Careers programme is reviewed annually. We assess the impact of our careers programme on our students by using the COMPASS tool on an annual basis, aligning our strategy with the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks.  The next review is June 2024.
