Attendance, Behaviour & Uniform
Attendance
Expectations
At Skegness Academy, we expect all students to attend school every day and participate fully in each lesson. Consistent attendance is key to academic success, and we believe that being present and engaged in every lesson helps students to thrive. In addition to attending school, students must ensure they arrive on time, ready to learn, and prepared for each class. We are committed to providing a supportive environment where every student can achieve their best, and we encourage families to work with us to foster a culture of punctuality and responsibility.
Absence Procedure
If your child is ill and cannot attend school, a parent or guardian must call the Main Office before 8.15am each day of the absence. Please use the absence line at 01754 879122, option 1.
Tips for Improving your Child’s attendance
Set a Routine: Establish a consistent bedtime and morning routine.
Prepare Ahead: Pack your child's bag and lay out their uniform the night before.
Discuss Education: Talk about the benefits of education and the importance of good qualifications.
Plan Wisely: Schedule medical appointments, outings and holidays outside of school hours.
Communicate: Contact your child's Head of Year promptly if there are any concerns or anxieties.
Promote Hygiene: Encourage healthy hygiene practices to ensure daily attendance.
Student Illness
On the occasions that your child is feeling unwell, it can be challenging to know whether they are well enough to attend or not. Please use the guide below to assess whether they should come to school.

What happens if your child does not attend school?
If a student has 10 unauthorised absences within a 10-week period, a Penalty Notice may be issued. Each school day has two sessions: morning (AM) and afternoon (PM). So, one full day of absence counts as two sessions.
Penalty Notices:
For the first referral, the Penalty Notice amount is £160 per parent, per child to be paid within 28 days. This amount is reduced to £80 per parent, per child if paid within 21 days. |
For the second referral, the Penalty Notice amount is £160 per parent, per child, with no reduction available. |
For the third referral, a Penalty Notice will not be issued. Instead, the case will go directly to Magistrates’ Court.Legal proceedings will be under section 444 or 444(1A) of the Education Act 1996. Magistrates can fine up to £2,500 per parent, per child. If found guilty, this can appear on the parents' future DBS certificate as a 'failure to safeguard a child's education.' |
