Excellence

We set high standards in all areas of school life. We work hard and try our best in each lesson, each day and each term to be the very best version of ourselves.

Respect

We speak and behave towards ourselves and other members of our community in a kind, pleasant and polite manner.

Personal Responsibility

We make good decisions about what we say and do and are accountable for our choices.

Gratitude

We notice and appreciate other people’s actions, the opportunities we are offered and the world in which we live.

Young Carers

Are you aware of what a young carers role is?

A young carer is someone under 18 who helps to look after someone in their family or friends who are ill, disabled or misuses drugs and alcohol. Young Carers take on everyday tasks, as well as try to focus and manage on their childhood and become the person who they want to be.

Young carers as young as 8 will ensure parents' tablets are being taken, help with cleaning and supporting parents.

For the older Young Carers their everyday tasks can include picking up medication, ensuring parents/ carers take their medication, ironing, cooking tea and picking up younger siblings from school. This is just a small list of the additional responsibilities they take on.

Here at the Skegness Academy, we are proud of our bespoke support on offer to our Young Carers and the amazing work Young Carers do.

Every other Tuesday in school, Young Carers can get together to celebrate and have a check in to see if extra support is needed. We try to fundraise throughout the year so that we can take Young Carers out in the community.

We understand that Young Carers have so much responsibility and there is evidence to see that Young Carers need extra support. As a school we are promoting Young Carers and to ensure that they are in school at the right time, we understand the list of jobs they do before school and after school and are aware they may have some extra worries that we can support with.

This year we will be taking on the Young Carers Challenge. If you think your child may be interested, please don’t hesitate to email Miss Liversidge on bliversidge@skegnessacademy.org.

Also, if you register your child as a Young Carer, they can access Young Carers in the community. This runs every other Monday, where your child can socialise and meet other amazing Young Carers.
